Storm Pool Prep
We are in the middle of the dreaded hurricane season here in the Coastal Bend. Are you prepared? Many folks along the coast have their plan in place. Where you’re going, what you’re taking, and how you’re protecting your home. But where does your pool fall into this plan?
You’ve spent a lot of time and money building and maintaining a beautiful pool. Don’t let a coastal storm ruin all that hard work! Here are some tips on how to get your pool prepped and ready in the event of a large storm.
Step 1 – Prepare the Area
Loose items around your pool are a major hazard during a storm. So put away the floaties and pool net in a secure location. Trim any nearby trees, bushes, and landscaping. Any of these things can easily become airborne and cause significant damage to your pool, equipment, home, and property.
Step 2 – Protect Your Equipment
In the Coastal Bend, much of the major damage during a large storm or hurricane is caused by storm surge flooding. Flooding poses a huge risk to your property, including your pool equipment. Make sure to secure your equipment and, if possible, sandbag the area for extra protection.
Step 3 – Watch Water Level
If the reports are showing significant rainfall and flooding, you’ll want to keep an eye on your pool’s water level to reduce the risk of it overflowing. If you suspect the pool might overflow, lower the water level to account for the rainfall and flooding. Make sure to never lower the water level past the skimmer!
Hurricane season is an important matter, and we all need to pay attention and be ready. Keep these tips in mind to protect your home and your backyard oasis!
